Has anyone had any oil surge problems on a 1600. Im finding that I am loosing toatal oil pressure when I am going around rand hand corners only. I have a digital dash so not sure if it is the dash, the oil im using or somthing else. I am using 0W 40 Mobil 1 Oil. If anyone else has experienced this can you please let me know what your problems was and how you fixed it.

Hi Brett,
We have exactly the same problem. We have a large red tell-tale light on the dash which picks up the problem straight away. Only lasts for a second on tightish right handers, particularly where the engine has been at high revs for sometime before the corner. So far hasn't caused any problems.
My theory is that it's caused by the oil not draining back into the sump and sump extension quickly enough. Even the small oil pump will drain the entire sump in about 8 seconds so if the is some surge plus the oil not draining back quickly enough it just pumps the sump dry. I've looked at the pick up point and drain points but still can't explain why it happens only on right handers.
Our only partial solution so far has been to slightly overfill the sump which has improved the problem but not made it go away. We use a 20W40 Shell racing oil.
I suspect many people have this problem, they just don't pick it up on their guage or dash. If you have this problem Barbagallo would have to be the worst circuit in the country.

Thanks Paul. Yes on Sunday we overfilled the oil to about 20mm above the fill line and it helped alot. I have an ajay where the engine is on a big degree slant so we found that when you jack the front of the car up until the engine is level the oil was only half full so we filled it to full and then let the car down which brought the oil level up to 20mm above the full line on the dipstick. It seems to also blow oil out of the left hand rocket cover on the right hand corners. It seems to build up presure when down changing into a corner. have tried replacing the rockert covers seals and tried selicone but no luck. I use the metal bolt on covers. Any ideas?

We probably have the same bolt on covers and have tried the same fixes but I still can't get them to seal properly. Nothing serious just an annoying film of oil on the bottom of the covers and bodywork. Next time I replace the seals I'm going to check that the covers are sitting flat on the heads. With the old tin covers you couldn't get a seal if the covers were distorted.
