Hi Alex,

If you are going to go the effort of trying to put together a car, I suggest you visit the VSCRC Round 5 at Phillip Island this coming weekend (21-22 Oct). If you bring your camera I'm sure you'll get all the pictures you are after. It will also help you understand the basic designs which can differ quite a bit. You can even take up previous offers to help out in the pits.

Also suggest you get yourself a copy of the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport (new 2007 edition out in next few months), as it will let you know the specs you need to build the car to for it to obtain a log book.

Those are a few suggestions that are a lot cheaper and better starting points than all the steel you'll need to even do just a couple chassic rails. Understand you're on a budget, but even all the steel will be at least $1k.

Thanks,
Anthony

Alex,

The story regarding the ORCC car that was put on the National Website

http://www.fvee.org.au/Members/sa/orcctafecar

and on the ORCC website

http://www.orcc.com.au/

Might be of interest to you as the aim was to cater for self builders with a chassis fabrication pack being developed. Even if you don't want to build that chassis it would give you most critical dimensions.
