02-10-2008 Third Time Lucky for Proctor
The thrill of second place in the NSW Formula Vee Championship had certainly worn out its welcome for Adam Proctor, but last weekend during the sixth and final round at Eastern Creek Raceway he was able to end that streak and claim the NSW Formula Vee Championship for 2008.
After finishing runner up on two previous occasions, the first in 2004 and then again last year, Proctor managed to break through and take out the 2008 NSW Formula Vee Championship that he had so been chasing for so many years.
It has been a case of persistence pays off, and throughout the NSW Championship this year he has had to fight tooth and nail for it, and it all came down to the third and final race of the weekend, and a second place finish was good enough to clinch NSW Championship success for the first time.
“The team and I have worked very hard all year, and it’s great to finally come away with the NSW Championship, as in previous years it hasn’t been for lack of trying, we just haven’t had much luck when it mattered most when it came to winning the NSW Championship,” said both a jubilant and relieved Proctor.
“Like it had the previous two times, the NSW Championship was only decided in the final race and it came down to me finishing in front of Michael Kinsella in order to win the championship.”
Trying to block out the previous two unsuccessful attempts with trying to win the NSW Championship, Proctor went into the final race with only one intention and that was to finish ahead of Kinsella, who was the driver to defeat him when he finished second back in 2004.
“It was a case of finish in front of Michael [Kinsella] or else, and that was the mentality I took into the final race and with both of us starting on the front row together, the start was going to be very important,” explained Proctor.
“I managed to get off to a better start than him [Michael Kinsella] and with the safety car coming out after two laps for the remainder of the race I was second at the time and he was fourth, and that was the way it finished. It’s certainly not the way I wanted to win the NSW Championship, but I’ll take it any way I can get it, especially after being so close the past two occasions only to come up short.”
Proctor has been a model of consistency throughout the 2008 NSW Championship, and despite not managing a race win all year, he has managed to win the most important thing, the NSW Formula Vee Championship.
The weekend for Proctor at Eastern Creek started in the best possible fashion when he topped the time sheets in qualifying, and then finished both race one and two in second, narrowly behind Kinsella.
Proctor would like to say a big thanks to Jacer Australia for all their continued support, actually the car he has driven all this year was the same Jacer F2K7 that Jason Cutts claimed the NSW Championship in last year, along with his major sponsor Glenella Group.
