- FVAQ Race meeting at Morgan Park
Round 2 CAMS Queensland State Championship
29/30 May 2010

G’Day one and all.

Well another good turn up, 18 in all made up of 10 1600, 4 x 1200 and 4 x HFVs. The weather had come from the south and was extremely wet, cold, windy and generally miserable to boot. However, most came to the fore and endured the conditions for the w/e. Consequently the conditions played havoc with just about everyone having an off at some stage over the w/e. Some had more than others but gained considerable experience to racing in the wet.

The loop the loop award goes to Clinton Liebinger as he felt the rathe of the Clerk of the course for his numerous excursions of the track. He wasn’t the only one I can assure you, myself included. The most pleasing issue of the w/e was the camaraderie displayed by all concerned in the club and others interested to keep each others spirits and enthusiasm up over the w/e.

The front runners were very consistent all weekend with Tim Hamilton leading the charge for another successful weekend. Mike Smith, John Doidge Paul Kellerway, Ben Beasley and Bruse Achenson kept each other busy. Kent Cross made a welcome return to racing and re establish his driving ability and stormed to the front of the 1200s. Luke Battaglia in his 1200 was nibbling at his heals all weekend even though he was plagued with engine problems all w/e. Brady Nicholls and Bob Roberts played swapsy all w/e in between offs.

Also amongst the mid field group we saw Mike Russell driving his own car tussling with Graeme Clarke, Ted Sibley and Craig Hughes. The rest of the group saw Jim Waugh and Chris Fry bringing up the rear.

A mention must also go to our pit crews and in particular the ladies in general with assistance from family members and friends as well, as a considerable amount of washing of cars was required between events and they all did a marvelless job under such conditions. The weather negated the usual BBQ on the Saturday after the races. However, spirits were high. Paul Kellaway won the raffle of $250 donated by Craig Hughes for each of the Cams State Championship rounds. Much appreciated.

Looking forward to Lakeside in two weeks time. Hope to see more of you there. Who knows maybe some Mexicans may come up north of the border?

Stay on the black stuff
Regards
