04-03-2007 Victorian vee drive day a great success!

Document Actions

A fantastic turn out for the 2007 Victorian formula vee drive day saw no less than 16 formula vees and 70 different drivers hit the track last Saturday afternoon/evening.

After a BBQ lunch and drivers briefing all novice drivers hit the track at 4pm for a few installation laps in road cars... well not quite normal road cars as Mark Mackay ran in his brand new 307KW VE Clubsport R8 and Ray Colenso turned a few laps in his black Lotus Elise, though this was just the beginning!

15 minutes sessions then commenced at 4:30pm after owners warmed up their vees doing a 3-lap systems check.

From there the cars were rotated through over 40 family, friends and sponsors of drivers and also 10 public drivers who registered their interest via the Fvee national website after the clubs advertising campaign on the website, on eBay and in Motorsport News magazine.

As afternoon became evening, a dinner break was taken with another BBQ with our use of the full Calder Park circuit then changing to the short track under lights, a thrill even for the experienced drivers!

We finished up on the track about 10pm with nothing but happy (and tired) faces around the track.

A final de-brief, pack up and cold beer completed a memorable day.

Special thanks go out to the following who made the day possible in terms of flag marshalling, administration and hospitality:

Ray Colenso, Reg Gardner, Peter Jones, Phil Kilworth, Jason Coppard
Paul Sexton, Jon Gaspero, Brett MacLennan, Daniel Reinhardt, Daryl Moyle
Drew Beacham, Renata Frith, Sharon Bowen, Noel Bull
(apologies to anyone we have missed)

Also a special thanks to those who made their cars available to the public drivers.

We have already had many drivers from the day contact us to let us know how much they enjoyed themselves and that they will be looking to join the category in the short term.

The next drive day is already in planning and will be even bigger and better than this one. Watch this space.

The day gets underway...

The vee owners were not so calm watching their cars on the track
