09-05-2008 More wins for Rapier

The Volks Engineering team has racked up more race victories in the brand new Rapier over the weekend taking out both races at Qld Raceway on Sunday.

The team was plagued by an oil leak on Saturday which resulted in only 1 lap being completed in qualifying and having to start from rear of grid. This only proved to be motivation to fight back through the pack as driver Paul Manteit explains "It's disappointing to start the weekend like this, but you have to take the good with the bad and it just doesn't look like it's our day today".

Battling hard in race 1, Manteit fought up to 4th position and was fighting for a podium when the laps ran out finishing behind Bromley, Hamilton and Gomersall.

Race 2 was a chance to battle for race wins and all was going well with Manteit leading comfortably from the Jacer's of Tim Hamilton and Grant Bromley when the oil leak reared it's ugly head again resulting in a mechanical black flag.

Sunday was a different story, fighting from the back of the pack again with nothing to lose, Manteit pressed on to take victory in a very well calculated race.

Manteit said "Starting from the back is always hard but if you drive smart you can get the best out of the car and at a track like QR, the draft assists very nicely to get up to the leaders."

In the final race of the day starting from pole, Manteit leapt into the lead and ran away from Hamilton and Bromley in the early stages before a fight back in the closing laps. Yet again, the Rapier held on to take an incredible 6th victory out of 8 at the hands of Manteit this season in the Qld State series.
